Historically, people could move freely within the UK if they were from the EU and visa versa. However, as of 1st January 2021, the implications of Brexit meant that anyone who is from the EU will need to have been physically in the country as of 31st December 2020 to apply for Pre-Settled or Settled Status.
Pre-Settled Status is equivalent to having limited leave. In this instance you have been granted stay for 5 years by the Home Office. Upon completion of a ‘clean and continuous’ 5-year period you will be able to apply for Settled Status.
Settled Status is the equivalent of Indefinite Leave to Remain. After you have obtained your Settled Status you will be able to apply for Citizenship and become a British Citizen.
The deadline for making the above application was the 30th June 2021. The Home Office is accepting late applications, but the applicant needs to meet one of the criteria for making a late application, as well as having ‘reasonable grounds’ for not applying before the June deadline.
Family Permit is where you are travelling to the UK to join your Pre-settled or Settled family member. The person that you are joining must have been in the UK on or before the settlement date of 31st December 2020. You must apply for this visa from outside the UK.
EU Nationals arriving after 31st December 2020 who are not joining any Family Members (requiring a Family Permit) will need to apply for a visas in the traditional route available to any person/persons seeking entry into the UK.

** Please note that if you have a dependant (under 21) and wish to bring them with you as part of your application this is something that can be done. We ask that you please mention this when contacting us as the main applicant about their eligibility and fees.
FAQ
All EU Nationals will be issued with certification of your Pre-Settled/ Limited Leave Status.
However, if you have a Family Member who is Non-EU, they will be issued a eVisa to indicate their Pre-Settled/ Limited Leave Status as well as the standard certification.
Prior to Pre-settled and Settled status you may have held a Residence Card or Permanent Residence. If you held either or these you will need to convert your Residence Card or Permanent Residence into Settled Status.
This means that you would apply for Settled Status under the EU settlement Scheme and evidence your Permanent Residence as reason for your application.
Yes, you can travel in and out of the UK freely so long as you travel with the documents that you submitted in your application for Pre-Settled Status.
If you have not yet received confirmation of your Pre-Settled Status, in practice, we advise that you do not travel until this confirmation is received. This is because it may cause unnecessary problems at border control upon re-entry to the UK.
EU Nationals arriving after 31st December 2020 who are not joining any Family Members (requiring a Family Permit) will need to apply for a visas in the traditional route available to any person/persons seeking entry into the UK.
