No Time Limit Application

An application for a Biometric Residence Permit which confirms your right to remain, when you already have Indefinite Leave to Remain.

Introduction

What is a No Time Limit Application?

A No Time Limit (NTL) application is designed for individuals who already hold Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) or Indefinite Leave to Enter (ILE) but no longer have up‑to‑date or usable proof of that status.

You may need an NTL application if you:

  • Have old‑style immigration documents
  • Have lost your original ILR documentation
  • Have ILR stamped in a passport that has expired

The NTL process is an administrative procedure that allows individuals with existing ILR or ILE to obtain official confirmation of their immigration status in the form of an eVisa.

Previously, immigration status was demonstrated through the validity of a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP). This is no longer the case. The UK has now moved to a fully digital system, and the eVisa is the standard method for proving immigration status to the Home Office.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take for my No Time Limit Application to be processed and receive my BRP card?

The standard processing time is 6 months but the Home Office may take longer to consider you application if they so need.

Is NTL and BRP the same?

No, “NTL” refers to the specific application called a No Time Limit application.

A BRP (Biometric Residence Permit) is the physical card that used to be issued after a successful NTL application, and it served as proof of a person’s immigration status.

Today, BRP cards are being phased out. Instead, individuals are issued an eVisa, which is a fully digital system and the most up‑to‑date way to prove immigration status to the Home Office.

Can my NTL application be rejected?

Provided that your Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) or Indefinite Leave to Enter (ILE) has not been revoked, and you supply all the required evidence, your application should be successful.
